MFM Playlist (9th November)

In the last week we’ve gone mental when seeing Muse and Biffy Clyro live and listening to the Pomegranates record. We’ve gone not so mental listening to Athlete. We also listed our act of the year nominations and decided to stay faithful to music industry out of the kindness of our own hearts. Now a new week begins, JLS are about to release their debut album (we’re thrilled) and we’re thus celebrating by giving you this week’s MFM Playlist. Check out all of the artists listed below if they sound like your thing.

Dominant Legs – Clawing Out The Walls
The guitarist of Dominant Legs, Ryan Lynch, is now a member of Girls. Now
I’m not sure how that will affect Dominant Legs but as long as they keep on making beautifully colliding stratospheres of sun-glowing indie above a single bongo drum such as those on ‘Clawing Out The Walls’, they won’t need a Lynch – although having said that, the crafty guitars are what makes this and he is one half of the two-piece.. Glass Ghost – Mechanical Life
Playing shows in the next month with White Rabbits, Local Natives, Dirty
Projectors and Rain Machine won’t be too taxing for Glass Ghost, apart from the fear of being totally upstaged. This gently-presented two-piece give a Blonde Redhead-esque atmosphere to their delicate tale of monotony and routine, a ‘Mechanical Life’. It’s beautiful and the percussion is stunningly progressive. (mp3)

Forest Creature - Edit 6
With a loop-centric, Fuck Buttons-ish approach to making dance music,
Forest Creature are two British guys making music not too distant from the aforementioned. In ‘Edit 6′ they fuse abstract sounds of creeking doors and typewriters that creep up on you as a wave of filthy, sodden atmosphere takes over. Taken from their debut ‘Frustrated Analogue EP’. (mp3)

The Mercury Program – Arrived/Departed
I assume you’ve heard all the angular guitars, gently placed keyboards, hi-hat
percussion mixing together to make this kind of post-rock before. What The Mercury Program do that’s so impressive is they achieve an evolving of sound that’s very subtle on the ear before the final minute of climax and last breaths where all breaks loose with such satisfying effect. (mp3)
7.3

Versant - Push Away
Brooding grandiose capable of sitting pretty on the ‘New Moon OST’, Versant,
featuring Carah Faye, formerly of Shiny Toy Guns, produce brash, emotional rock so ambitious it floors you. ‘Push Away’ is capable of fitting itself into the American charts in a flash with its soaring kaleidescope of tear-stricken melancholy that’s indisputably powerful. (mp3)
