Couldn’t agree with Bloc Party review any more – what an incredible album! Unfortunately, doubt they’ll ever reach those heights again, if they ever make another record…

Silent Alarm is a great album. The problem with such a strong debut is that anything that follows it is considered a disappointment.
Fans are so fickle today. Everybody wants to hear something new. I can’t name a band recently that has had what fans consider a strong sophomore album.
Can you name one?

Yes David,
The one that springs to mind is The Horrors’ ‘Primary Colours’.
The Maccabees built on what they had with ‘Wall of Arms’, Noah and the Whale “did a Horrors” with ‘First Days of Spring’.
Jack Penate, Wild Beasts…..

Jamie,
I agree those are good sophomore albums. Those bands are nowhere near the level of Bloc Party though.
My point is how do you follow up a debut album that is listed as one of the album’s that defines the decade?
I personally liked the direction Bloc Party went. I didn’t want another Silent Alarm.
