Everything Everything : Your Keys, My Boyfriend

spacious pop magic

Thanks to Wendy Roby’s witty and insightful single reviews on Drowned In Sound, today the moment finally came that I pressed the play button on Everything Everything for the first time. Already expecting them to feature in many “new bands” lists come January, there’s this built-in amount of expectation that comes with single ‘Your Keys, My Boyfriend’.

The result? It’s the best pop song of the year by a long, long stretch. Glammed-up percussion and complex, click-click guitar rhythms make battle with Mike, Jeremy, Jonathan and Temple’s falsetto-ed vocals placed into tiny spacious loopholes, creating beats with voices, beats with voices I tell you. It’s very reminiscent of Wild Beasts but hold on to something here…it’s more interesting. If anything, this single will propel an already mildly-popular, extraordinary bunch of Manchester lads into pop stardom.  (JM)

Oooh, you are awful. But I like you. And so glad to hear someone is as excited about these cats as what I am.
