The “hoover song” on ‘Jewellery’, this is more the turning point of one of the year’s finest debut releases. Initially Mica Levi introduces herself as an inventive troubadour with a kitchen that she can loop a few sounds from. But then she pulls out the vacuum cleaner and BAM, album of the year. The contrast between high-pitched vocals and Levi’s normal, spaced-out and inquisitive vocals in the chorus is something to behold, especially when you’ve got that sucking piece of equipment going nuts in the background.
