LYRICS: MARCH // A BEST OF
LYRICS: March’s Mighty
words: Jamie Milton

As difficult it was to diss any of March’s releases in what was very nearly a flawless month, some of the lyrical content was a little harder to warm to. In the premier-listening-session of U2’s latest album, Bono’s ambitious word-play was projected onto a screen, to add merit to his achievements. His output wasn’t too bad, as it happens. But on Howling Bells’ ‘Radio Wars’, things were a little more predictable, almost uncomfortable: (“I’ve been bitten by a spider”), fails to get the heart racing.
Here were some of the better offerings:
———————————————————–
“And I put my things all over the floor, if I stand on my bed I can see it all,
And I put your things all over the floor, if I jumped off my bed I could smash it all“
MICACHU – FLOOR (mp3) [alt]
———————————————————-
“When I grow up,
I want to live near the sea,
Crab claws and bottles of rum.
That’s what I’ll have.
Staring at the seashell,
Waiting for it to embrace me…”
FEVER RAY – WHEN I GROW UP (mp3) [alt]
———————————————————-
“I know I can’t afford your love,
Yet I am joyous in defeat.
Exposing everything and exhaling,
I am the model of relief,
awaiting an epiphany.”
