Track Review: We Were Promised Jetpacks – Quiet Little Voices
Words: Gareth O’Malley
Nearly four years have passed since We Were Promised Jetpacks formed. Feels like an eternity, but now, finally, they’re motoring. Debut single ‘Quiet Little Voices’ is released through FatCat Records on May 4th, and is the first taste of the band’s highly anticipated debut album, ‘These Four Walls’, which arrives June 15th. It’s awesome, might I add… but I’ll save that for another time. “Quiet little voices / running through my head / I’m young again,” yelps frontman Adam Thompson, backed by a thunderous rhythm section. Things really get going in the second verse, when the guitars take centre stage, and the song romps its way through its remaining two minutes, coming to a satisfying conclusion after a brief bass-led bridge heralds the re-entry of those guitars. “Quiet little voices / Quiet little words” – nothing could be further from the truth. Jetpacks are crying out to be heard, and with the album packed full of great tunes, and quite a few potential singles, it shouldn’t be long before their calls are heeded.
